Ten years ago, almost to the day, I handed in my undergraduate thesis on David Foster Wallace’s magnum opus, “Infinite Jest.” A few weeks later, I received an exciting email from the English department. Wallace was coming to campus to give a reading preceding the annual senior thesis conference. I was not only invited to be one of eight seniors reading from their theses in front of the department and the visiting author, but did I want to pick up the MacArthur “Genius” at the airport?
